Residents &
Units

Living Unit
|
Many will be from rural northern communities with approximately
one-third being of native origin. A significant number will be
charged or convicted of sexual and /or violent offences. Most abuse
alcohol or intoxicants, have below average academic and general
life skills and do not attend school regularly. |
Resident Bathroom
|
Residents will be housed in one of four units: Skeena, Bulkley,
Fraser and Peace. The numbers of the kids in a unit usually is
about 12 and has gone as high as 21. Each unit is further divided
into three four-person groupings or "pods". Each pods shares a tub
or shower, and a toilet and sink. Resident are individually housed
in secure lockable rooms, each with its own window, writing desk,
and cupboard space. Meals are eaten in the unit's central dining
area (above). |
Bedroom Unit

Phase levels
The phase levels range from Basic status to phase IV, with basic
being the lowest level and phase IV being the highest. New intakes
are placed on phase II and remain there for a period of up to one
week. Phase levels can be lost or obtained by earning points.
Residents can earn up to 204 points per week, depending on their
behavior and attitude. At the end of the week, (Saturday night) a
staff member totals up the number o points the resident has earned
that week. The number of points determines the phase level for the
following week.
Chores
Each day, residents are assigned chores that they must complete.
The number of chores is determined by the count in the unit.
