Youth admitted to PGYCC are transported directly from court by the deputy sheriffs. Upon admission, they are informed of their legal position and provided with an orientation to the facility, its rules and procedures. All personal possessions are stored until time of release. The Center supplies the clothing and toiletries they will require during their stay. A nurse performs a medical screening of all new residents. The case management coordinator then conducts an interview and assigns a living unit based upon custodial disposition, background information, and case management principles. A case manager is assigned to all sentenced residents > 30 days. He/she acts as a key worker assisting residents in developing and achieving goals and objectives for their stay. The case manager also assists in planning and advocating applications for transfer to open custody, temporary absences and/or early release, as appropriate. |
